History

Schneider Shay Pian & Pittenger Architects is one of Arizona's premiere, legacy architectural firms. SPS+ Architects was originally established in 1960 and has operated continuously in Arizona for over 50 years. We have proven we have the capacity to meet deadlines on time and provide quality buildings within budgets.

The four principals, Herbert W. Schneider FAIA, Howell L. Shay AIA, Robert L. Pian AIA and William R. Pittenger RA, have a combined history of over 100 years of experience with this firm. They are joined by a staff of 29 qualified architects, designers, administrators and construction experts who have been a part of our team for an average 8 years.

We have dedicated most of our career to the design and planning of k-12 and higher education schools in the state of Arizona. Some of our most important projects include Manzanita Hall and the College of Law at ASU, the SkyDome arena at NAU, the Chandler Center for the Arts, Tuba City High School, St. Maria Goretti Church in Scottsdale among many others.

This December, SPS+ Architects is celebrating its 50th Anniversary as an Arizona Firm. Originally founded by Dr. Wendell Rossman, the firm has seen its members transition into partnership throughout the years, such as: Donald Gadbery, AIA; Herbert Schneider, FAIA; Howell Shay, AIA; Robert Pian, AIA; and William Pittenger, RA. As part of this anniversary celebration, the firm is welcoming three new partners: Patrick McGee, AIA, LEED AP; Carlos Murrieta, AIA, LEED AP; and Mark Davenport, AIA, LEED AP.
